    CDK6: A New Frontier in Cancer Treatment

    CDK6, a protein kinase, is essential for transcriptional regulation in tumor and hematopoietic stem cells. This suggests a role in maintaining tissue homeostasis and differentiation, which is partially independent of CDK6's kinase activity and distinguishes it from CDK4. Furthermore, the frequent dysregulation of CDK6 and its associated G1 phase regulators in a vast majority of cancers underscores its significance in tumorigenesis. As such, targeting CDK6 has emerged as a promising avenue for the development of effective cancer treatments.

    Background

    The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the Ser/Thr protein kinase family. This protein is highly similar to the gene products of S. cerevisiae cdc28 and S. pombe cdc2.

    Interaction with D-type G1 cyclins. Cyclin binding promotes enzyme activation by phosphorylation at Thr-177 (By similarity). Binds to RUNX1, CDKN2D, FBXO7 and CDKN2C/p18-INK4c. Forms a cytoplasmic complex with Hsp90/HSP90AB1 and CDC37. FBXO7-binding promotes D-type cyclin binding. Interacts with Kaposi's sarcoma herpesvirus (KSHV) V-cyclin and herpesvirus saimiri (V-cyclin/ECLF2); the CDK6/V-cyclin complex phosphorylates NPM1 and thus lead to viral reactivation by reducing viral LANA levels.

    I've been using Creative Biolabs' anti-CDK6 antibody for IP experiments and have been extremely impressed. The antibody consistently pulls down CDK6 with high specificity and efficiency. There is very little background noise, which enables accurate and readable findings. I've tried several other anti-CDK6 antibodies, but this one has been the best by far.
