Background
The LILRB4 gene also codes for a protein belonging to the LILR family. This receptor is expressed on various immune cells, including monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells. LILRB4 is characterized as an inhibitory receptor, meaning it can dampen immune responses. It is known to interact with MHC class I molecules and has been implicated in the regulation of immune tolerance and in tumor immunology. Research indicates that LILRB4 plays a significant role in the tumor microenvironment, where it can contribute to the suppression of anti-tumor immune responses. There are studies investigating the possiblity of utilizing LILRB4 as a target for cancer immunotherapies.
