PR domain zinc finger protein 1 is a protein encoded by PRDM1 gene in humans.
The tumor suppressor gene is a member of the nuclear histone/protein methyltransferase superfamily. It encodes a zinc finger protein that can bind to retinoblastoma protein, estrogen receptor, and the TPA response element (MTE) of the heme oxygenase-1 gene. Although the function of this protein has not been fully characterized, it may (1) play a role in transcriptional regulation in neuronal differentiation and pathogenesis of retinoblastoma, and (1) act as a transcriptional activation of heme oxygenase-1 gene And (3) is a specific effector of estrogen. Three transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.
