- ALPP, or alkaline phosphatase, placental, is an isoenzyme of alkaline phosphatase found primarily in the placenta during pregnancy. Its main function is to catalyze the hydrolysis of phosphate monoesters at an alkaline pH. While its exact physiological role is not fully understood, it is believed to contribute to placental function and fetal development. ALPP is also used as a tumor marker, particularly in the diagnosis of certain cancers, such as testicular cancer.
