Background

CTAG1B, also known as melanoma antigen family A1 (MAGE-A1), is a cancer/testis antigen (CTA) that is normally expressed in germ cells of the testes and placenta but is aberrantly activated and expressed in a variety of tumor types. Due to its restricted expression in normal tissues and its significant presence in malignant cells, CTAG1B has become a target of interest in cancer immunotherapy. It is involved in cell cycle regulation and may contribute to tumor cell proliferation and survival. The identification of CTAG1B in various cancers has led to the development of immunotherapeutic strategies, including cancer vaccines and T-cell therapies, aiming to elicit an immune response specifically against CTAG1B-expressing tumor cells. Research continues to explore the exact mechanisms by which CTAG1B contributes to tumorigenesis and to optimize its use as a target in cancer treatment.
