- Human interferon alpha-2 (IFNα2) is a cytokine that belongs to the type I interferon family. IFNα2 is a protein secreted by virus-infected cells and acts on other cells to inhibit viral infection. IFNα2a and IFNα2b are better known by their trade names Roferon-A and Intron A. Upstream of the coding sequence is the promoter region, which contains sequences that regulate the transcription of the IFNA2 gene into messenger RNA (mRNA). The amino acid sequences of IFNα2a and IFNα2b differ only at position 23 (lysine in IFNα2a, arginine in IFNα2b).

Target
- Introduction
- CD38 (CD38 Molecule) is a Protein Coding gene. Diseases associated with CD38 include Richter's Syndrome and Leukemia, Chronic Lymphocytic. Among its related pathways are Cell-type Dependent Selectivity of CCK2R Signaling and Hematopoietic Stem Cell Differentiation Pathways and Lineage-specific Markers. Gene Ontology (GO) annotations related to this gene include transferase activity and hydrolase activity, acting on glycosyl bonds. An important paralog of this gene is BST1.
