CLPP is a mitochondrial matrix serine protease that functions as the catalytic subunit of the ClpXP proteolytic complex. It is a critical mediator of the mitochondrial unfolded protein response (UPRmt), maintaining mitochondrial proteostasis by degrading misfolded proteins.
