The anti-ITGA4 scFv-Fc fusion protein is designed to selectively target integrin alpha-4 (ITGA4), a key mediator of leukocyte adhesion and migration. This protein combines a single-chain variable fragment (scFv) for precise ITGA4 binding with an Fc domain, optimizing stability and extending its systemic half-life. By inhibiting ITGA4, it aims to disrupt the trafficking of inflammatory cells, thereby reducing inflammation in conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease and multiple sclerosis. The Fc portion of the protein enhances its persistence in the body. Research efforts are focused on evaluating its therapeutic potential for mitigating immune-mediated diseases. This targeted approach has the capacity to decrease harmful movement of inflamatory cells.

- Function
- Integrins alpha-4/beta-1 (VLA-4) and alpha-4/beta-7 are receptors for fibronectin.
They recognize one or more domains within the alternatively spliced CS-1 and CS-5 regions of fibronectin.
They are also receptors for VCAM1.
Integrin alpha-4/beta-1 recognizes the sequence Q-I-D-S in VCAM1.
Integrin alpha-4/beta-7 is also a receptor for MADCAM1.
It recognizes the sequence L-D-T in MADCAM1.
