This antibody fragment is engineered for highly specific targeting of cancer cells. It features a single-chain variable fragment (scFv) that specifically binds to the Lewis Y (Ley) antigen, a carbohydrate molecule frequently found on the surface of various epithelial tumors.
To enhance its stability and functionality, the scFv is linked to an Fc region (derived from human immunoglobulin) via a flexible connector, forming a single, continuous polypeptide chain. This design results in a bivalent antibody, capable of binding two Ley antigens at the same time. This bivalent binding can potentially increase its overall binding strength (avidity) to tumor cells, which is important for therapeutic and diagnostic applications.
