Background
Japanese encephalitis (JE) virus, amember of the genus Flavivirus within the family Flaviviridae, is responsible for encephalitis in the east and south-eastern regions of Asia including the Indian subcontinent. The E-protein, the main structural component of the viral envelope, is the primary target of the immune system and is responsible for neutralizing and protective antibodies.
