Background
Many pathogenic bacteria produce capsular polysaccharide (PS) virulence factors. Capsular polysaccharides of several pathogenic bacteria are thought to be good materials for the development of new therapeutic reagents. These polysaccharides can be used as vaccines against infection of pathogenic bacteria and are also useful as inhibitors for disease caused by aberrant and abnormal cell-cell interaction, such as cancer metastasis and inflammation.
