PPP1R1B

Protein phosphatase 1 regulatory subunit 1B (PPP1R1B), also known as dopamine and cAMP regulated neuronal phosphoprotein (DARPP-32), is a protein encoded by the PPP1R1B gene in the human body.
Midbrain dopaminergic neurons play a key role in a variety of brain functions, and abnormal signaling through the dopaminergic pathway is associated with several major neurological and psychiatric diseases. A well-studied target for dopamine is DARPP32. In the caudate-thalamus of rats dominated by dense dopamine and glutamate, DARPP32 is expressed in medium-sized spiny neurons, and also expresses the dopamine D1 receptor. The function of DARPP32 seems to be regulated by receptor stimulation. Dopaminergic and glutamatergic (NMDA) receptor stimulation both regulate the degree of DARPP32 phosphorylation, but in the opposite direction.
