Background

SAP2, or Candidapepsin-2, is an aspartic protease secreted by the pathogenic yeast Candida albicans. SAP2 plays a significant role in Candida virulence by degrading host proteins, including immunoglobulins and extracellular matrix components, facilitating tissue invasion and nutrient acquisition during candidiasis. It is a potential antifungal drug target.
