Background
Chloramphenicol is an antibiotic useful for the treatment of a number of bacterial infections. This includes use as an eye ointment to treat conjunctivitis.
Chloramphenicol (CAP, D-(−)-threo-2-dichloroacetamido-1-pnitrophenyl-1,3-propanediol), is a broad-spectrum antibiotic suitable for the treatment of several infectious organisms because of its effective antibiotic activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative microorganisms.
