Background
ATP phosphoribosyltransferase (ATP PRT) is the first enzyme in the histidine biosynthetic pathway. It catalyzes the condensation of ATP and phosphoribosyl pyrophosphate (PRPP) to form N'-5'-phosphoribosyl-ATP. This enzyme is a major regulatory point for histidine synthesis and is often subject to feedback inhibition.
