Background
ispDF, or Bifunctional enzyme IspD/IspF, is a single polypeptide that contains two distinct catalytic domains involved in the methylerythritol phosphate (MEP) pathway for isoprenoid biosynthesis. It catalyzes sequential steps: the cytidylyltransferase reaction (IspD) and the cyclodiphosphate synthase reaction (IspF), making it an efficient enzyme in the pathway.
