ispE, or 4-diphosphocytidyl-2-C-methyl-D-erythritol kinase, is an enzyme in the methylerythritol phosphate (MEP) pathway, responsible for isoprenoid biosynthesis in many bacteria and parasites. It catalyzes the ATP-dependent phosphorylation of 4-diphosphocytidyl-2-C-methyl-D-erythritol to 4-diphosphocytidyl-2-C-methyl-D-erythritol 2-phosphate.
