katG, or Catalase-peroxidase, is a bifunctional enzyme that exhibits both catalase activity (decomposing hydrogen peroxide) and peroxidase activity (reducing hydrogen peroxide while oxidizing a substrate). KatG plays a crucial role in oxidative stress defense in many bacteria, and in Mycobacterium tuberculosis, it activates the antitubercular drug isoniazid.
