parC, or DNA topoisomerase 4 subunit A, is a component of DNA topoisomerase IV, a bacterial type II topoisomerase. ParC, along with ParE, is crucial for decatenating (unknotting) daughter chromosomes after replication. It is a major target for fluoroquinolone antibiotics, which inhibit its DNA cleavage and re-ligation activity.
