Background

petC, or Cytochrome c1, is a component of the cytochrome bc1 complex (Complex III of the electron transport chain) in respiration. It contains a heme c cofactor and acts as an electron acceptor from the iron-sulfur subunit (PetA), transferring electrons to soluble cytochrome c, playing a vital role in generating the proton motive force.
