plc, or Phospholipase C, is an enzyme that catalyzes the hydrolysis of the phosphodiester bond in phospholipids, releasing diacylglycerol (DAG) and a phosphorylated head group. Phospholipases C are involved in lipid signaling, nutrient acquisition, and are significant virulence factors in many bacterial pathogens, causing cell lysis and tissue damage.
