Background
pstS, or Phosphate-binding protein PstS, is a high-affinity periplasmic substrate-binding protein that is part of the Pst (phosphate-specific transport) ABC transporter system in bacteria. PstS specifically binds inorganic phosphate (Pi) and delivers it to the membrane components of the transporter for uptake, crucial for phosphate acquisition under limiting conditions.
