Background

slt, or Soluble lytic murein transglycosylase, is an enzyme that cleaves the glycosidic bonds within the peptidoglycan cell wall of bacteria. Unlike membrane-bound transglycosylases, Slt is soluble and contributes to peptidoglycan recycling, cell wall remodeling, and potentially to autolysis during stress or antibiotic exposure, leading to cell death.
