xapA, or Purine nucleoside phosphorylase 2, is an enzyme involved in the purine salvage pathway. It catalyzes the reversible phosphorolysis of purine nucleosides (e.g., inosine, guanosine, xanthosine) into their respective purine bases and ribose 1-phosphate. XapA helps in recycling purine bases for new nucleotide synthesis and energy conservation.
