Background

Histone H2B is one of the 5 main histone proteins involved in the structure of chromatin in eukaryotic cells. Featuring a main globular domain and long N-terminal and C-terminal tails, H2B is involved with the structure of the nucleosomes.
Histone H2B
Enables DNA binding activity. Involved in chromatin assembly or disassembly; negative regulation of transcription by RNA polymerase II; and postreplication repair. Part of nucleosome and replication fork protection complex. Orthologous to several human genes including H2BC11 (H2B clustered histone 11); H2BC12 (H2B clustered histone 12); and H2BC13 (H2B clustered histone 13).
