Background
The NLRC4 inflammasome, named after its central component, Nucleotide-binding Oligomerization Domain, Leucine Rich Repeat And CARD Domain Containing 4 (NLRC4, also known as IPAF), is a crucial multi-protein signaling platform of the innate immune system. Its primary role lies in directly sensing specific bacterial components within the host cell cytosol and triggering a robust inflammatory response, most notably against Gram-negative bacteria. This inflammasome plays a vital role in host defense by initiating the activation of pro-inflammatory cytokines and inducing pyroptotic cell death.
