SOX15

This gene encodes a member of the SOX (SRY-related HMG-box) family of transcription factors involved in the regulation of embryonic development and in the determination of the cell fate. The encoded protein may act as a transcriptional regulator after forming a protein complex with other proteins.
Protein class

Transcription factors

Predicted location

Intracellular

Single cell type specificity

Group enriched (Basal squamous epithelial cells, Squamous epithelial cells, Basal keratinocytes, Suprabasal keratinocytes)

Immune cell specificity

Immune cell enhanced (non-classical monocyte, intermediate monocyte)

Cell line specificity

Group enriched (A-431, HaCaT, HBEC3-KT, hTCEpi)

Interaction

Interacts with HAND1; the interaction enhances HAND1-induced differentiation of trophoblast giant cells (By similarity). Interacts with POU5F1 (OCT3/4); binds synergistically with POU5F1 to DNA (By similarity). Interacts with FHL3; the interaction recruits the transcriptional coactivator FHL3 to the FOXK1 promoter (By similarity).

Molecular function

Activator, DNA-binding, Repressor
