Background
CD23, also known as the low-affinity IgE receptor, is a type II transmembrane glycoprotein expressed on various immune cells, including B cells, monocytes, and eosinophils. It exists in two isoforms, CD23a and CD23b, which are generated by alternative promoter usage. CD23 plays a complex role in immune regulation, including the regulation of IgE synthesis, antigen presentation, and cell signaling. CD23 is implicated in allergic diseases, autoimmune disorders, and certain hematological malignancies.
