Hypervariable region of HIV-1 envelope protein gp120, critical for viral tropism and entry. The V3 loop is a hypervariable region of the HIV-1 envelope glycoprotein gp120. It is a major determinant of viral tropism and plays a critical role in viral entry by interacting with the co-receptor CCR5 or CXCR4 on host cells. The V3 loop is also a target for neutralizing antibodies.
