Background

sseA, or 3-mercaptopyruvate sulfurtransferase, is an enzyme that catalyzes the transfer of a sulfur atom from 3-mercaptopyruvate to a thiol acceptor. SseA is involved in sulfur metabolism, including hydrogen sulfide production and the biosynthesis of iron-sulfur clusters, crucial for the function of many proteins.
