Background
This gene encodes a dual specificity protein kinase with the ability to phosphorylate tyrosine, serine and threonine. Associated with cell proliferation, this protein is essential for chromosome alignment at the centromere during mitosis and is required for centrosome duplication. It has been found to be a critical mitotic checkpoint protein for accurate segregation of chromosomes during mitosis. Tumorigenesis may occur when this protein fails to degrade and produces excess centrosomes resulting in aberrant mitotic spindles.
Protein class
Enzymes, Metabolic proteins, Plasma proteins
Predicted location
Intracellular
Single cell type specificity
Cell type enhanced (Spermatocytes, Early spermatids, Spermatogonia, Erythroid cells, Late spermatids)
Immune cell specificity
Immune cell enhanced (T-reg)
Cell line specificity
Low cell line specificity
Interaction
Interacts with TPR; the interactions occurs in a microtubule-independent manner (PubMed:19273613). Interacts with MAD1L1 and MAD2L1 (PubMed:29162720).
Molecular function
Kinase, Serine/threonine-protein kinase, Transferase, Tyrosine-protein kinase
