Background
Adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD) is a rare genetic disorder that affects the nervous system and adrenal glands. It is caused by mutations in the ABCD1 gene, which encodes a protein involved in the transport of very long chain fatty acids (VLCFAs). ALD is a progressive and often fatal disease.
