Clostridium botulinum produces several serotypes of botulinum neurotoxins (BoNTs), including BoNT/B1 and BoNT/B2. These neurotoxins are highly potent and cause flaccid paralysis by blocking the release of acetylcholine at neuromuscular junctions. BoNT/B1 and BoNT/B2 are used in various medical and cosmetic applications, such as the treatment of muscle spasms and wrinkles.
