CD84 is a member of the SLAM (Signaling Lymphocytic Activation Molecule) family and is expressed primarily on immune cells, including T cells, B cells, and monocytes. It is involved in the regulation of immune cell activation and adhesion. CD84 participates in the immune synapse formation, a crucial process for T cell and antigen-presenting cell (APC) interactions. It is thought to have a role in regulating inflammatory responses and maintaining immune tolerance. CD84 is also implicated in the development of certain autoimmune diseases and is being studied as a potential therapeutic target for modulating immune responses in these conditions.
