Dengue virus (DENV), a member of the family Flaviviridae, is a mosquito-borne pathogen with four distinct serotypes including DENV-1 to DENV-4. Currently, it is estimated that DENV infects about 390 million cases globally each year, resulting in 96 million cases clinically apparent from mild fever to dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) or the life-threatening dengue shock syndrome (DSS).

This gene encodes a protein that plays an important role in the immune response. This protein is a high-affinity Fc-gamma receptor. The gene is one of three related gene family members located on chromosome 1.
