Background

HSL is important in controlling the quorum sensing (QS) in P. aeruginosa. QS control the expression of extracellular virulence factors associated with Pseudomonas infection and also biofilm formation. Apart from controlling the expression of virulence factors, 3-oxo-C12-HSL itself exerts significant immunomodulatory effects on mammalian immune responses.
