IL2RG encodes the common gamma chain of several interleukin receptors, including IL-2, IL-4, IL-7, IL-9, IL-15, and IL-21 receptors. This gamma chain is crucial for the signaling pathways that lead to immune cell development, activation, and differentiation. Mutations in IL2RG result in X-linked SCID, a severe form of immunodeficiency that leaves individuals vulnerable to infections. This gene is located on the X chromosome, and the gamma chain plays a pivotal role in the function of T-cells, B-cells, and natural killer cells. IL2RG is involved in maintaining normal immune responses.
