OLR1 (Oxidized Low-Density Lipoprotein Receptor 1) encodes a receptor that binds oxidized LDL (oxLDL), playing a role in atherosclerosis. It is expressed in endothelial cells, macrophages, and smooth muscle cells, and its activation leads to the uptake of oxLDL, contributing to plaque formation in blood vessels. OLR1 has been studied as a potential biomarker for cardiovascular diseases and inflammation.
Protein class

Disease related genes

Predicted location

Intracellular, Membrane (different isoforms)

Single cell type specificity

Cell type enhanced (Syncytiotrophoblasts, Cytotrophoblasts, Macrophages, Hofbauer cells)

Immune cell specificity

Immune cell enhanced (myeloid DC)

Cell line specificity

Cell line enhanced (CACO-2, HaCaT, HHSteC, hTCEpi, SiHa, SK-BR-3)

Interaction

Homodimer; disulfide-linked. May form a hexamer composed of 3 homodimers. Interacts with HSP70. (Microbial infection) Binds to the head and beginning of the coiled stalk of N. meningitidis adhesin A (nadA) variant 3; binding can be abrogated by monoclonal antibodies against the specific regions of NadA. Binding occurs in protein microarrays, in solution and when LOX-1 is expressed on the cell surface.
