The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the poly(A) polymerase family. It is required for the addition of adenosine residues for the creation of the 3'-poly(A) tail of mRNAs. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.
Protein class

Enzymes, Metabolic proteins, Plasma proteins

Predicted location

Intracellular, Membrane (different isoforms)

Single cell type specificity

Cell type enhanced (Syncytiotrophoblasts)

Immune cell specificity

Low immune cell specificity

Cell line specificity

Low cell line specificity

Interaction

Monomer. Found in a complex with CPSF1, FIP1L1 and PAPOLA. Interacts with AHCYL1 and FIP1L1; the interaction with AHCYL1 seems to increase interaction with FIP1L1 (PubMed:19224921). Interacts with NUDT21; the interaction is diminished by acetylation. Interacts with KPNB1; the interaction promotes PAP nuclear import and is inhibited by acetylation of PAP (By similarity).

Molecular function

RNA-binding, Transferase
