This gene encodes a conserved protein that plays a key role in the regulation of cell division. The encoded protein directs dephosphorylation of cyclin B-bound CDC2 and triggers entry into mitosis. It also suppresses p53-induced growth arrest. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants of this gene have been described.
Protein class
Cancer-related genes, Enzymes, Metabolic proteins
Predicted location
Intracellular
Single cell type specificity
Cell type enhanced (Spermatocytes, Late spermatids, Early spermatids, Spermatogonia)
Immune cell specificity
Not detected in immune cells
Cell line specificity
Low cell line specificity
Interaction
Interacts with MAPK14 and 14-3-3 proteins. When phosphorylated on Ser-129 and/or Thr-130, interacts with PLK1. (Microbial infection) Interacts with HIV-1 Vpr; this interaction inactivates CDC25C phosphatase activity.
Molecular function
Hydrolase, Protein phosphatase
