FCGR2A encodes another member of the Fc receptor family that also binds IgG. This receptor is involved in the immune response, particularly in regulating the activation of immune cells like macrophages and neutrophils. FCGR2A plays a role in antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC), a mechanism by which immune cells destroy infected or cancerous cells. It is also involved in the regulation of inflammation and immune complex clearance. Genetic variations in FCGR2A have been linked to diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and rheumatoid arthritis, where immune complex deposition and inflammation are central.
