CD3 (cluster of differentiation 3) is a protein complex and T cell co-receptor that is involved in activating both the cytotoxic T cell (CD8+ naive T cells) and T helper cells (CD4+ naive T cells). It is composed of four distinct chains. In mammals, the complex contains a CD3γ chain, a CD3δ chain, and two CD3ε chains.
PROM1 (Prominin 1) encodes a protein involved in the maintenance of stem cell properties and is a key marker for stem cells, particularly in the hematopoietic and neural systems. It is involved in the regulation of cell proliferation and differentiation. PROM1 has been studied for its potential therapeutic implications in cancer, where its expression can help identify cancer stem cells, which are often resistant to conventional treatments.
