Background
Prostaglandin F receptor (FP) is a receptor belonging to the prostaglandin (PG) receptor group. FP binds and mediates the biological effects of prostaglandin F2α (PGF2α). It is encoded in humans by the PTGFR gene.
Studies using genetically engineered animals lacking FP and examined the role of EP4 receptor agonists in animals and animal and human tissues indicate that the receptor has multiple functions. It is considered to be the most successful therapeutic target of 9 kinds of prostaglandin receptors.
