SOX2 is a transcription factor belonging to the Sox family. It contains a highly conserved DNA - binding domain called the HMG (high - mobility group) box. Structurally, the HMG box allows SOX2 to bind to specific DNA sequences in the promoter and enhancer regions of target genes.
