Background
Venezuelan Equine Encephalitis Virus (VEEV) is an arthropod-borne virus (arbovirus) belonging to the Alphavirus genus in the family Togaviridae. It is primarily transmitted to horses and humans through the bite of infected mosquitoes. The disease caused by VEEV can lead to severe neurological complications in horses and flu-like symptoms in humans, although most human infections are asymptomatic. VEEV exists in several strains, with some being more virulent than others.
