This gene encodes a receptor for the anterior pituitary hormone, prolactin, and belongs to the type I cytokine receptor family. Prolactin-dependent signaling occurs as the result of ligand-induced dimerization of the prolactin receptor. Several alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different membrane-bound and soluble isoforms have been described for this gene, which may function to modulate the endocrine and autocrine effects of prolactin in normal tissue and cancer.
Protein class

Disease related genes, FDA approved drug targets, Human disease related genes

Predicted location

Intracellular, Membrane (different isoforms)

Single cell type specificity

Cell type enhanced (Endometrial stromal cells, Granulosa cells, Breast glandular cells, Proximal tubular cells, Syncytiotrophoblasts)

Immune cell specificity

Not detected in immune cells

Cell line specificity

Cell line enriched (T-47d)

Interaction

Homodimer upon hormone binding. Interacts with SMARCA1. Interacts with GH1. Interacts with CSH. Interacts with NEK3 and VAV2 and this interaction is prolactin-dependent.
