Provided is a humanized neutralizing mAb to human Hepatocyte Growth Factor (HGF). The mAb inhibits at least one, and preferably several or all biological activities of HGF including binding to its receptor cMet, induction of scattering of cells such as Madin-Darby canine kidney cells, induction of proliferation of Mv 1 Lu mink lunk epithelial cells and/or hepatocytes and/or HUVEC, and stimulation of angiogenesis. A preferred humanized anti-HGF mAb inhibits, most preferably completely inhibits, growth of a human tumor xenograft in a mouse.
